Without knowing the general condition of the vehicle I would say you should be able to get in the neighborhood of 14-18. There are many things that can affect this. 1. Tuneup condition, air filter, plugs, wires, fuel filter etc. 2. Wheel alignment can have a big part in gas mileage. 3. If you have any brakes hanging up. Also on this big motor driving habits play a big role in mileage. You can do a vacuum check on engine to check for general condition of major components of the engine. If you plan on doing a vacuum check repost and I'll post the procedure.....

Wow big motor huh, last I checked a motor was electric and an engine is internal combustion. Plus you didn't determine what carburetor he is using. For some of us helping individuals on here is something to pass the time, I think for you it is a life style.

14-18 if you drop it out of a plane maybe. a 460 ford may get 8ish in city, if you are lucky. thats a big thirsty motor

You are probably right i just know my dad had a 460. We used it to pull trailer with 1000 gallon water tank and we got 10-11. Maybe just a fluke.........

Trevor is right on, I had 2 Ford 460's (77 lincoln and a 74 Lincoln) and both were 4 barrel carbs 6000 lb + cars and best I could get out of them on highway was 12-14 MPG when it came to city driving...it was around 6-8 and that's with well maintained engine.

But I thought it was an engine. I'm not going to argue about gas mileage over a few miles to the gallon. You guys go ahead I'm sure laphone heard enough on this one.

My little brother had a 87 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive with a 5 speed, it would average about 10, didnt seem to hardly drop it when pulling trailers as long as they werent superloaded, gallon of gas is suppose to be equivalent to 14 sticks of dynomite, you would thing you could blow parts of it about 10 miles away

Hello I have a 1997 F250 HD 2WD EFI 460 engine, E4OD and 157xxx miles My Mods are Full Amsoil synthetic lube in Differential, Full synthetic Mobile 1 in the engine changed every 5000 miles. Full synthetic Amsoil grease in wheel bearings and tie rods and such. Tires have 80 psi. And the E4OD tranny has Dextron 6 Atf. Air horns cut off. I Keep it tuned up every 20xxx miles. Timing advanced to where it just pings lightly when in a hard pull. Added engine oil cooler and a HD transmission cooler. Other than that she is all stock. still has the cat and smog pump. Gets 15.33 avg on highway empty and 8 pulling the fully loaded 34 foot 5th wheel camper. All I can say is she has power and runs smooth.
