1977 f150 xlt ranger. Trying to get the old manifolds off and need a few helpful hints. I know they only torque the 25 ft lbs but they have never been taked off have a few loose but scared of twisting them off. It has factory air so thats in the way on one side. The exghaust is leaking through the manifolds and block so gaskets must be shot but big plan is to replace them with headers. Its a 400 w so the more you can open them up the better it will run.
spray the bolts with PB BLASTER,can get at any parts store,let them soak over night,spray again start removeing them,doubt any will break off,if 1 or 2 do just take a set of vice grips and turn the broken stud out,you may have to remove them .studs anyway headers come with their own set of hex bolts.studs are no problem to remove.you will have to remove the AC compressor to get at the front ones easer,that is no big deal eather.
Spray with penetrating oil, both in front (on the bolt head) and behind (between the block and the exhaust, on the threads). Let soak for a few hours, maybe a day.
