My 76 f150 won't stay running when accelerating. .... I need help?
The truck has a 5.9L 360 , it starts fine just stalls when you press on accelerator.
Accelerator pump is the first thing to check, it should give you a shot of fuel every time you move the gas pedal, if you don't get any fuel replace the accelerator pump, if you get good fuel squirt then disconnect the vacuum hoses from the vacuum advance unit on the distributor and then see if it will accelerate, if it does then check the little ground wire inside the distributor that grounds the breaker plate to the distributor, it maybe broke. If you still have a problem then check the carbs float level, then the fuel pump flow and pressure. HTH
I would start by narrowing down the problem by spraying some quick start on the carburator as u pulk on accelerator cable, if it does ramp up the engine speed, then u have a gas problem. If it still stalls, then check the spark system
