how do u troubleshoot a fuel system problem on a 89 chevy S-10
test for proper fuel pressure. i know the 4.3l TBI engine needs to put out 9-13 psi with key on engine off. You can rent a tester from autozone, it's about $100 but you get it back on returning it. Also it should hold pressure for at least 10 min after cutting the key off.
If the fuel pressure hit 40 on any tbi engine it would blow apart the fuel pressure regulator. Trip 65 stop using another account to mark ur own answers as helpful its called boosting and ur fake score is sad, u should be banned......
Andrew posted the correct answer there is no other answer the only way to check for proper fuel pressure is with a gauge and the fuel pressure like Andrew said should be between 9 and 13 psi. And I did give an answer it was a response to ur wrong one if this guy would have checked his fuel pressure and it showed 12psi he possibly would have replaced a pump to get the same results because u said 40. The fuel pressure regulator is paper thin and 40 psi would destroy it. Obviously Google didnt work for this kid so he came here and asked his question. He didn't like Google's response the first time so ur copy and paste was no help to him either. So who marked ur answer as helpful????
Maybe the reason ur out of the business is because you improperly diagnose vehicles then fix what isn't broken leaving ur customer unsatisfied. All I'm saying is don't put ur 2cents in unless its the correct currency. (If you don't know what ur talking about then keep quiet.)
And tbi is a fuel injection system
gee things must be real slow in indiana. bored are we?
U mad BC I made u look stupid on the internet?
i dont get mad & i'm not stupid either. ive been working on cars when you were in diapers. and yeah i know tbi is fuel injection , i meant tpi. man give it a break already. I helped plenty of people on here. you're the first to give me any bullshit . I think i got it now ,tbi is not 40 psi . thanks for the input.
2 years later I found Andrews answer to be helpful and correct. I have a 40 lb pump going to a high end pressure reg. Runs best at 9 lbs with the vacuum booster on the regulator I have 11 lbs at full throttle and it runs great.
But how do you test it? I have a 91 s10 blazer 4.3 v6 4x4. I have fuel pressure tester. I can not find the part to screw the tester on. Anyone know where it is?
There is no Schrader valve on yours (the part to attach the tester to). You must unscrew the hard lines and use (brass) fittings to tap into it. Usually this is done at the chassis mounted fuel filter (I remove the filter and use a brass T fitting) or at the TBI fuel pressure line.
