Rear tail lights

Asked by Jun 18, 2016 at 07:24 PM about the 1987 Chevrolet S-10

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 87 s10 2.5 and my tail lights quit working.
The front works, but blink extremely slow. I have
break lights but no turning signals or parking lights
in the rear. When I put the right signal on both front
flash , when I put the left on both dont. Plz help me
figure this out before I roll it down a hill on fire...lol

Start with the rear grounds and sockets, make sure they are clean and tight, the sockets have been know to burn right where the ground wire connects, so look closely, then start checking the powers from the switch to the rear lights, if no power on any circuit check for a blow fuse, as this is an 87 it is highly possible that the turn signal switch is failing, so if you have power going in but nothing out then replace the switch assembly. Grounds are a big problem on these older S10 series trucks so check check and recheck. HTH

I checked grounds seem to be ok. When I give a left turning signal all the turning signals flash like emergency flashers except slow and rear weak. Still no rear parking lights but have front.

Make sure the 4way switch fully off, sometimes it can get stuck part way, so cycle it a few times and see if it helps. But I still think you have a ground and possibly a turn signal switch problems.
