Tow a 1985 S-10 Pickup truck
Flat tow or tow dolly?
Sorry, flat tow
No problem. Yes you can but you will need a kit that will unhook the rear drive shaft or keep the gear selector in neutral. Talk to any RV dealer they will be able to help you.
Thank you so much. I even contacted Chevrolet and their answer was "Sorry we don't keep information on vehicles that old". They should have info on their computers going back to the first Chevrolet built.
Well yea that would be a little hard to do, lol.
You did say automatic, Right? The only way you can flat tow an automatic trans vehicle is to like transAm stated disconnect the rear driveline, putting it in neutral won't work, you will fry the tranny.
Hey tennisshoes what's up? They have a kit that holds the gear selector in neutral and has a pump for automatic transmissions so they don't burn up. I've only seen two of them.
Thanks for all of your help guys
Yes I know, i had a family in a motorhome pull in last year with one of those on the towed vehicle and had burned up 2 transmissions in 2000 miles, I put in another tranny and installed one of those driveline disconnect units, on the return trip they stopped by and no more tranny troubles. I don't trust those pump systems, if it goes out while getting towed by a big motorhome you don't know anything is wrong until it locks up the tranny and you start sliding the tires on the towed rig or someone flags you down saying there's smoke coming out of the towed vehicle.
Oh geez really? Not good.
So I guess I disconnect the drive shaft to be safe. Thanks
Yep that it the safest way.
