what could the problem be with the battery light on the dash ? it stays on all the time, the battery is new

I have installed a new battery in my S 10 and there is a battery light that stays on in the
dash, the only way I can get it off is to disconect the battery.

Could be a problem with the alternator. Take it to one of the auto stores that do free checks on alternators.

Ken is correct. The alternator is bad. Because the light stays on with the ignition off, the voltage regulator, inside the alternator is shorted. HTH. -Jim
