The pop could have been the battery blowing up internally, so get it checked for proper voltage and load, then if that checks good test the fuse links, usually they just smoke as they go but anything is possible.
I am unable to find the fusible links
It could also be a short somewhere, meaning that a bare wire has grounded when it shouldn't have- a car that old will have some questionable wiring- to keep your classic's electrical system operating properly you will need a wiring diagram and a test light- then put on your detective hat-
There should be some down by the starter and if this vehicle has the small connector block on the firewall there will be at least one there.
