why would it take off slow in drive but if shifted manualy it goes fine it has a 2.4 L 4 cylinder motor?

I was told that it needed a shift module? That could be why it takes off very slow,does that sound like that is what it might be?

I was going to say it needs a new shift module. Seems like a great place to start.
