I changed out the ignition switch on a 91 Toyota 4x4. After installing the new switch, the steering wheel is unlocked in the LOCK position but locks when I start the engine and stays locked. Any help as to what is wrong?

personally would verify the installation...I know the steering wheel has to come off...just make sure all the electrical connections are correct....this sounds like an electrical complication...make sure they are all connected~ that would be where I start~

system ground are always a suspect...be sure the battery is newish and the ground connections from the black cable to the engine and to the chassis ground are happy with pulling 40 amps~ ...a corroded chassis connection may do this~ check the battery and cables would be my first guess~
