94 Camry LE 2.2 - Will shift into all gears, just doesn't engage...

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 Camry LE 2.2. A few days ago while driving my camry,  I noticed a couple
different times it hesitated when I started to take off from a stop. The next day, I started the
car and shifted it in to reverse and it wouldn't go anywhere, same with drive and the rest of
the gears. Car's RPM's will spike when pushing the gas, it just won't take off. Any
suggestions?

Your transmission fluid is a nice pretty red and not dark red, orange or brownish? Dark red normally means it should have a filter and ATF change. Orange or darker means it needs to be seen by a professional.

Not sure if you know this, but when checking the fluid level in an automatic, it should be warm and when pulling the stick, the engine is supposed to be on. Checking a cold tranny with the engine off, it will always appear to be full of fluid. You must pull the stick with the engine running, wipe it off, put it back in, then take the reading.

With 200+K on the tranny.....you might want to think about the purchase of another vehicle. A tranny repair will cost more than this vehicle is worth. Good Luck
