1997 Toyota camry 4 cylinder

Asked by Aug 08, 2016 at 03:53 PM about the 1997 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First it started over heating, so I
changed the thermostat. Then it
was running fine but just for a
little while then it started over
heating again. Only this time, the
car started to jump or skip when
I stepped on the gas to continue
driving, then it starts to lose
power then dies out on me.  Then
it started to make this back-firing
noise. And it also sounds like
there's either too much air or
something.  Next,  I changed the
spark plugs, but it didn't really
help much. It was still back -
firing. What could be wrong with
my car? And what can I do to fix
it?

The overheating problem and the "jump/skip" issue are most likely related. This is what happens when a HEAD GASKET goes bad. There are tests that should be run to confirm my suspicion. Cooling System Pressure test and Compression test come to mind. Is the CEL(Check Engine Light) ON when the engine is running.? This issue needs a good Mechanic with the correct Tools and Equipment. Keep us up to date.

If you live around westminister their's a good mechanic in 7301 westminister Blvd the mechanic is really good he fix my camry 2011 and the guy is a honest mechanic he would talk to you straight up and he won't give you all the bs other mechanic will give you should try it out.
