1999 Toyota Corolla, 71K miles, transmission pump bad
Car was making "grinding" noise, told transmission pump needs replacement, car is 1999 Toyota Corolla, with only 71K. Is this common? Quote of $522 for repair.
Fact is the term "Transmission Pump" is vague and I am not sure what exactly that means. The transmission it's self is one big pump. - Torque converter? But to get to your question - no, it's NOT common at all for a transmission to be making a 'grinding noise' at 71k miles. But if the mechanic is honest and there is a problem, $522 is about as inexpensive as any transmission repair will ever be. But please come back, if/when work is done and tell us what was done. Whatever you do get a receipt and work order from shop explaining specifically what work was done. Good Luck
