Can I bypass the rheostat/dimmer on my 2004 Toyota Camry? I believe the rheostat is burned out and before I replace it I'd like to still have dash lights.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My dash lights went out on my 2004
Toyota Camry when I installed a new
stereo. I found the fuse for the dash
lights and glove compartment was
burnt out so I replaced it and the
glove compartment light came back
on but the dash lights are still out.
Could be the rheostat, so can I turn
the lights on without the rheostat?

Ok, when the headlights are on either turned on manually or automatically by the dusk sensor, nighttime, the dash lights pass through the dimmer. If headlights are off, (not counting DRL's) the dash lights are on, for daytime bright, and don't pass through the dimmer, not adjustable. My point being is that if the instrument cluster lights are off in daytime the dimmer is not the problem. After being in there, doing the audio system work, you may accidentally knocked off a ground..or something
