When does one have the rack and pinion serviced on a 2005 Avalon Limited?
I am thinking about buying a 2nd Owner Avalon with 92K miles. The car has
rack and pinion not a timing belt. I want to know when to have this service,
changed, or whatever?
The rack and pinion is part of the steering system. The timing chain or timing belt is part of the engine. Two totally different things. HTH. -Jim
Therefore, when does one need to service the timing chain? How many miles?
Timing chains are usually good for around 150,000 miles. Things like timing chain tensioners and guides may wear out sooner. But you'll hear noises coming from the engine before they fail. Frequent oil changes is the key to getting the most mileage out of these internal engine components. HTH. -Jim
