Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I put a running engine from one s10 a 2.5L 4Cyl. Engine.

Into my s10 with a bad engine. Also a 2.5L 4Cyl. Engine.

I've a good battery, I'm getting spark, the fuel pump
works, timing is good, and we can't get it to start...  it's
creating exhaust, and we're stumped...  any suggestions?

Check fuel pressure at the filter with an adapter, or check injector squirts fuel with crank position signal present and adequate fuel pressure. (they wont squirt with too low a fuel pressure). With key on the fuel pump will run a couple seconds to build up pressure but that doesn't mean you have good pressure at the throttle body. Correct pressure is 10-13 psi if I recall. If you only have half that injector won't squirt. You can check if engine will fire with just the slightest amount of starter fluid, and I mean SLIGHT. If it fires even briefly you know it's a fuel issue you're having.
