Sometimes when I' getting low on gas or the temp is rising in the engine on very hot days, the check gauges light will come on so you can monitor the engine vital signs. Like the above answer said, maybe the oil pressure is getting low so you should check on the level or if you have a monitor to tell you your % of use before an oil change is due, it may flicker. Do you have a tire pressure indicator that may be telling you to check the tires? Sometimes the little dash lights work as intended but so little we forget what they are for. I started paying attention to my dad's car gauges in the 50s and never keep my eyes off them. I always try to guy a car with a sports package so there are mechanical gauges to watch and not rely in "idiot lights".
