My 95 s10 runs and drives fine till everything
warms up then the speedometer quits
working and it wont shift out of whatever
gear your in till it cools back down what is
causing this

Most common is the VSS, as yours seems heat related I would check the wiring going to the VSS before just replacing it, you might want to pull the codes to see if there are any other problems in the engine management system.
