Is motor Blown

Asked by smithamy29 May 17, 2018 at 08:34 AM about the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Question type: General

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey. This morning on my way to work it shut off. It
acts clogged up of something. It still cranks but doesnt want to rev up. I shut
it off and on again. The VSA light is on. So I hit that button to turn it off but it
doesnt work. We cranked it several times but it still acts funny. It started to
smoke but the engine never ran hot. Is my motor blown? Or what are some
possible causes.

unless you hear a noise that sounds like a loud clanging when you run the car odds are that your motor is not blown. what you describe could be caused by several things, blown head gasket, motor doesnt always overheat with thse. could also have a valve broke or sticking. also a very likely cause is a clogged catalytic converter. i would check there first. all you need to do is un bol the exhaust before the converter and see if engine revs then. it will be loud but if it revs youve found your problem. and last but not least these hondas have something called limp or safe mode that happens when the car ecu detects a critical problem most often in the tranny and it will cause the car to barely go. but should not smoke. hope this helps u
