Oil on plugs. Do I need new engine or could it be something else to check first?

Asked by Sep 26, 2015 at 03:22 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just had oil change days before.   Engine light suddenly goes on. Car
starts to stutter when stopped. Minutes later was making loud clattering
sound. Mechanic took and took out couple plugs and found oil on them.
Didn't know cause or want to go any further says quick fix would be to
just replace whole engine.   What could be cause? Should I just replace
the engine?

Oil on the electrode end is caused by worn bores/piston rings or valve guides. Engine work is necessary.
