How long can a 2007 Chevy Impala LS Idle

How long can a 2007 Chevy Impala LS idle on a full tank of gas?, If I were to
start the car and just let it sit there and run, how long before the tank would be  
100% empty? I ask as I do ALOT of driving for work and want to know if I
would be ok to let it run all night as I hunkered down in the back seat for the
night.

I'm sure that you can. But most States have laws prohibiting this. You can also run the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning under the right conditions! Comparing the cost of idling the car for the long periods verses getting a motel room. I think it'd be cheaper and safer to get a motel room. HTH. -Jim

I have an CO detector in the car. What harm would it do to the car?

Some cars, when idling, don't reach operating temperature or cool down below operating temperature. This can cause sludge and water condensation inside of the engine. Especially if it's cool or cold outside. This will shorten the life of the engine. Possibly greatly. HTH. -Jim

If you look in the owners manual there is a warning about extended idling. Just a bad idea. If you still think about going through with this I would recommend that you have a fancy timed or temp sensors remote start unit installed, with that you can set it to start and run for a period of time then shut down throughout a 24 hour period or a sensor unit will start it at a predetermined temperature and run it till it reaches another predetermined temperature. Not sure about the extended IDLE issue. Trucks idle all night and never have a problem and run over 1 million miles so that myth is debunked. Just FYI.. the answer to that question I asked is roughly 48 hours from FULL to EMPTY.
