what are the possible causes for a whining noise that gets louder the faster I go. It sounds like it is comming from the front end.

It is hard to describe but sounds like half way from a whine to a grinding noise.I
had the wheel bearings checked and was told they were ok.

Still sounds like a wheel bearing to me. Some shops aren't very good at diagnosing them I've found. Try rotating your tires front to back to see if that changes anything.
