2006 Ford F150 does not want to start. What could be the possible cause?
We where driving down the freeway when the
rpms started to drop so we pulled over to the
side. We turned the truck off and when we tried
to start it back up it would not turn over.
The engine would not turn over or not run? If it won't turn over it might just be the battery. If it won't run the check engine light should be on in which case you need to get the codes read.
Sounds like a fuel issue, either a bad fuel pump or ran out of gas. I am assuming the engine cranks but will not start.
It's not the battery and the car did have gas so it can't be that
yolandag...you still did not answer the questions that were asked of you so it is difficult to assist you further. Full of regrets asked you: does the engine not run or will the stater not even crank the engine...we are not mind readers...
Did it make any abnormal noise when the rpm's started dropping? How full is the fuel tank, how many miles since filled up? Did you drive through any water? Was the engine light on, if so was it blinking? What color is it? Was your spouse driving, can you blame it on them? I need more data my crystal ball is foggy today.
If the starter will not engage when you turn the key there is a possibility the alternator went out and the engine was firing off the battery only. ONce the battery is depleted, the engine kills. Question: Does things like the radio, headlights, other electrical devices work, or are they dead? If dead, suspect the alternator and check first.
I am Yolandag's husband So what if narrowed it down to is I think that one of the cam timing sprockets is out which would Fuck the timing It turns over but it's not firing I have half a tank and have already ruled out fuel problems and battery problems which leaves me with timing
I really doubt the cam timing jumped a tooth. How did you rule out the fuel problems and have you checked to see if you are getting spark?
I plugged a code reader to it and read as a bad vvt solenoid so I replaced it and still read the same and if researched and if been told that a bad cam timing sprockets can read as a vvt
The fuel pump is running properly and so is the fuel pump modulator I haven't been able to check the plugs because if been away for a couple of days
Before you start the truck if you leave it in the on position you can hear the fuel pump spinning up
Unless I'm thinking way to far and the cam positioning sensor is bad and it's making the truck think it has bad timing
If you have a variable valve timing code it could very well be the cam phaser. It is a time consuming repair. Find a certified tech who is familiar with this repair.
Try disconnecting the cam sensors. For some reason if the pcm is trying to adjust to bad phazers they wont fire over correctly. everything checks out just not firing at the right time. By unplugging the cam sensors you may trick into base timing and get it to run just enough to diag it fully.
