Certain lights come on when not turned on

Asked by Sep 30, 2015 at 07:35 AM about the 2006 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This all began about the same time.  My dome light and cargo light will turn
on for no reason and then turn off by themselves.  They will turn off if I roll
the dash dimmer switch all the way off, however this also turns off my dash
lights as it is supposed to.  The E brake idiot light stays lit and is the only
one on the guage cluster that does this.  The cruise control works
sometimes.  The back up alarm switch will turn off by itself and lights up and
will not turn on when switch is pressed.  The radio light will turn off by itself
sometimes and come back on.

All instrument panel lights and odometer, temp, direction guage works fine.
Headlights, tail lights, parking lights, signals work fine.Power windows/seats
work fine.

Sounds like a bad connection or ground @ that switch.

I have this problem on my truck but my lights turn on when the temp. drops under 20*. I have a button and just turn it off for the winter, so I would say it is in that switch...

What switch? The dash light dimmer? And would that affect the other lights too?

Yes, on mine it is all in one with the head light switch, but my truck is a Chevy. Your cruze control is another issue. And on you E-break, try pulling up on the pedal as you pull on the release, may inadvertently have pushed the pedal.
