Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I own a'74 Chevy Chevelle Malibu Classic and I'm starting to have transmission issues. Seems like it's slipping or just barely not going into any gears..
Check the fluid level first. Is it red?
How many miles? Might be time for a rebuild.
What transmission do you have? If it's the Powerglide (P, R, N, D, L) the bands probably need adjusting. Don't know if Chevy was still offering the Powerglide by '74. But I figured I'd put it out here, just in case. HTH. -Jim
Do you want to keep it stock or are you willing to look at the Tremec transmission replacement? They are made to bolt right in with no modifications. Go on line and give them a look see. You can even call and they will talk to you. It may be just a little bit more than a rebuild on your old transmission, but you will be so much happier with it. It is a strong transmission and you can get it with OD to save mileage and low gearing also for quicker acceleration. Give it a look.
