Clunking sound when car is rolling
hi i have a chevelle that makes a clunking sound when i drive it as soon as i go faster then
15mph i put the car in neutral and turned off the engine and it still clunked til it slowed
down.... any ideas?
Wheel bearings? Rear end (not likely) or as Jason said, drive shaft bearings. Not an expensive fix. Just knowledge to change out the drive shaft bearings. If there are grease fittings on the bearings, try to grease it first and see if that helps in reducing the clunk. If it does, than it is the bearings and they need to be replaced before your drive shaft falls off. Does it stop when you accelerate or get more pronounced?
it gets worse as i accelerate
i read on other forums it could be the tranny mount i crawled under the car and didn't see much visually wrong with it then again not entirely sure what im looking for
It sounds like a drive shaft bearing. A tranny mount will cause vibrations. You have to use a long pry bar to pry the transmission where the mounts are and see if the transmission moves.
