A simlper way is to add a aftermarket electric fuel pumo. splice into the line, hook up the voltage wire and you are in business. Or you get to drop the tank and replace with a stock one. I like the aftermarket better myself.

Never done anything like that .Sure sounds a lot better than all that sweat and labor .Thanks a bunch.

is it carburated or fuel injection? fuel injection is in the tank , just lower it down on a jack, slowly and disconnect the lines & hoses, clean off the nut good so no dirt falls into the tank, remove the lock nut & O-ring & pull out the pump. when you put it back grease the O-ring. if you have a carb it on the passenger side of the block.

Probably too late but I've done a couple by just pulling up the carpet in the hatch area and cutting a hole in the floor the pump is right on top of the tank this way. Just don't cut too far down, once done carpet goes back over and no one knows but you. The "right" way does require lots of work and replacing any rusty parts you break along the way i.e. tank straps fuel lines brake lines axle shackles etc.

flop forward the back seats, pull the carpet back to the back hatchway area and on the flat panel on the inside, my husband used used a metal chisel (carefully at an angel) to start the cut and then tin snips. he cut a rectangle out of the top of it, and a two inch wide diagonal down towards the floor of the driver's side in front of the rear wheel. Then a 15 mm socket will remove the bolt holding the tank strap, this will allow you to remove the fuel lines, however you have to pry up on the mount in order to get the fuel lines out. This isounds like alot but it's much easier then dropping the axel to remove the tank.
