So it cranks ok? Did you check the fuel pressure?

If no pressure gauge like Tom said, have someone hold the key to accessory and listen through the fill hole of your gas tank. See if you can hear the fuel pump prime. Or take a screw driver and touch the metal end to the bottom of the gas tank, and put your ear to the handle. You should hear the pump prime that way as well. If no humming noise, your fuel pump is bad.

thanks for the info #tom#reelin68. I will inform owner...it was not my car...just trying to help out a friend

While you are back at the tank listening for correct fuel pump activity...try smacking the BOTTOM of the fuel tank with the palm of your hand while someone else attempts a start-up. Also...you should make sure your engine OIL is not contaminated. Pull the dipstick and feel/smell the oil. If it smells like gas....DO NOT start the engine. No sense in starting an engine with contaminated oil in the crankcase.....Knock....knock......knock.
