For the first time after a rain storm found water on both front floorboards. Where should we find the leak?
Sunroof left open? Door not shut tight
2008 Saturn Vue( without a sunroof ) leak located! Living in Jacksonville Fl and we have had daily rain for about a month now. This of course lead to water intrusion into the floorboard areas. I took out the front and back seats out completely (8 or 9, 10mm bolts). I removed the carpet and let everything dry in the sun for 24 hrs. Once completely dried, I sat inside the vehicle with a flashlight while a second person poured water out of a garden hose on top of and all around the vehicle for about 15 minutes with no leaks. We then decided to open the front hood and pour the water along the front of the fire wall starting on the passenger side and working our way towards the driver side. This is when I started to notice a small drip coming down from the hood latch release cable rubber grommet (the cable runs through the fire wall grommet and attaches to the hood release). I grabbed the cable and shook it lightly side to side while the water was still pouring over it which allowed more water to enter at a faster rate. The grommet does not have a snug water tight fit and Its my opinion that while driving in rainy conditions on a daily basis that water does in fact enter through this opening. I have sealed both sides of the grommet (engine compartment and interior) using automotive silicone from the local auto parts store, make sure it dries for 24 hrs. I then put everything back together and tested again, No Leaks!! Hope this helps.
