IMS bearing replacement

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is a ceramic bearing the way to go with replacement vs conventional and if replaced
with either one, will it have to be done again ?

Read up on this and make your own choice. There are lots of opinions out there! Done right you should not need to do it again for a long time. Hopefully not until the engine needs a rebuild.

There are lots of options. LN's IMS Retrofit with ceramic hybrid bearing was the first in 2008. LN's IMS Solution came out years later offering a pressure fed plain bearing that provides a permanent fix for IMS failures. What is interesting is that Porsche came out with their own replacement IMS, they used a ceramic bearing as well: https://www.pca.org/why-choose-ceramic-ims-bearing
