Car doesn't start after it sits in heavy rain

Asked by Feb 14, 2015 at 02:20 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Montana

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Any time there is heavy rain or snow sitting on my car and it melts my car has a lot of
trouble starting. It turns over and usually eventually starts but sometimes I have to wait
until its dried out before it will start. Never happens when its dry or parked underground.
Once I get it running the engine light is on for a short while then goes away. It sputters and
miss fires a few times and then seems normal.

Sounds like you need a tune up. This is especially true if you have over 100,000 miles on your Montana. Ninety-nine percent of the time when a vehicle is susceptible to moisture it's an ignition system problem. HTH. -Jim
