Does the center console in a 2002 grand am come apart in pieces or do I have to completely remove it to get underneath the cup holder and storage compartment?

They almost all come apart in pieces, the cup holder and storage area can come out (look for small screws holding them in). Once out you'll find the bolts that are securing it to the floor.
