What is the difference between Grand Am SE1 & Grand Am SE

Asked by RussellE Mar 23, 2010 at 10:39 AM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Question type: General

Wondering what the difference was. Have bought a Grand Am SE with motor blown and searching for engine have been seeing SE1's listed. Also wondering if the motors are interchangeable between the two.

The motors are the same on all the Grand Am models. The GT's are rated a little higher due to the "Ram Air" intake but it really doesn't make a difference.

And yes all the engine are interchangeable but if it had a four cylinder first you'd have to get a the transmission for the engine

I have a 2001 Grand Am Gt and it actually goes up to 140.... I also own a 2004 Grand am SE1 and it tops out at 120. The GT is built lighter and lower to the ground and comes with Ram Air which is why it has a higher top speed. I do prefer the SE1 however because it is a smoother ride and has cloth bucket seats instead of leather bucket seats. That is just opinion though.
