Why does my car after being jumped started cut off when I try to drive?

I was driving my car when all of a sudden, the instrument panel started getting dim and eventually the car cut off.  I got a jump start, but when I tried to drive off the car immediately cut back off?  What does this problem sound like?

Shorted cell within the battery with have similar symptoms. What is the voltage? Have the battery tested.
