Make sure the battery has a full charge and the connections all good. If the battery is down, can't do any testing. Any applicable trouble codes? Your saying the starter motor won't crank the engine? With testing we can usually bypass everything just to see if starter motor will crank the engine, that doesn't mean it will start and run. If you try that, make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set.
