what causes a water pump to leak

The bearing wears out and the coolant leaks through the weep hole in the casing. Another spot is the gasket that surrounding the pump and stud, can get old and dry rot and leak.

Tom nailed the answer.I was going to say the same thing he beat me by half a minute
