Cars rev limit comes on early
I have a 1994 model 1.6 carb sentra , I am experiencing this problem for a
while now ,when I floor it the car revs up as normal but sometimes the Rev
limit will kick in early and the Rev needle bounces very fast from that cutoff
point to around 7000 rpm. The normal rev limit is 6500 before red line ,and
sometimes the car goes all the way there ,sometimes it cuts off at 5500 or
5000 or 4500 rpm, I have replaced 3 distributors and still the same problem
The limiter is part of the computer programming for the engine management, I recommend that you pull the codes, your looking for a crank sensor code that will be for multiple signals at any givin time, if there is no code for that then clear the computer buy unhooking a battery cable and turning on the headlight switch for at least one minute, then turn off the switch and reconnect the battery cable, restart the engine and drive as you normally would for about 20 minutes, then see if the problem has been corrected. If not then you will need to have the vehicle checked by the pros, it may have a bad processor.
