evaporative emissions control
The Evaporative Emissions System is a vacuum-operated system which keeps fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. It runs from the tank to a purge solenoid and evap canister in the engine compartment. A leak detection pump makes sure vacuum pressure stays within specs and alerts the PCM if a leak is present. Most common problems with this system are the purge solenoid sticking or the vacuum hoses cracking, causing a check engine light to come on.
