why does my suv have a right and left catylitic convertor

why does my suv have a left and right catylitic. Those are a connected to a single pipe
which leads to another a muffler and then the tail which also has had some apparatis

Yep 1 for each cylinder bank, then the muffler, then a resonator. Welcome to the age of emission control. Your lucky you only have 2 converters.
