Sounds like the bearings on the pulley are seized. Time for a new alternator.

no the alternator is near new ive just replaced it and possibly didnt have to as old one does the same its definatly electrical i can unplug the lead onto the alterator and it does not heat up but of course it wont charge then also it takes only seconds before the pulley gets so hot it starts melting a new belt ...take wire off fine no charge ?????

Sounds like the alternator is in full field mode, take it in and have the charging and battery tested, if I remember right this models charging system is controlled by the computer.
