Break Lights

Asked by Aug 18, 2013 at 08:58 AM about the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero

Question type: General

I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero. The parking lights and break lights do not work but everything else does. I replaced the turn signal switch and you can hear a click under the hood in the fuse box when you cut the lights on and off. What could be wrong?

I'm going to suggest that you need a NEW battery...these tin/antimony alloy batteries only last about five years and stop taking a charge 10% per year so get a new one....coarse wirebrush the point on the frame/chassis that this 1/0awg lug attaches...wirebrush the chassis....wirebrush the lug...and bolt them back together...install a NEW battery and things should work properly~

Sounds like you could have lost your ground circuit to the tail lights. Use a test light in the sockets. One lead to the hot wire of the lights and the other to the ground wire of the lights. If it lights up inspect bulb and socket for corrosion. (Or bad bulb). If it does not light up hook one test lead to the hot of the lights and the other to the frame of the car. If it lights up inspect the ground circuit of the lights for broken wire or loose frame connection.

Alright, I think it might be the switch itself? I was told to use a jumper wire to see if it would come on and they did? When I plugged it back into the switch... nothing.
