Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1991 Ford Explorer (4.0L, 4x4, Sport) has 184460 miles on it at the moment. Ever
since i bought anout 2 months ago it was running just fine. Then all of a sudden
whenever i come to a stop at a redlight and   then try to accelerate the truck would not
advance until i would press on the gas a bit more then it would do a jerkin motion and
switch into gear and drive. Lately I have to put it into  1st gear and then 2nd gear and
then put it on drive after just so it could change gears
