what causes a raw fuel smell in the passenger compartment

if it smells like fuel/gas, I would not drive the car until the source is figured out. Even the vapors can light up so open your windows or doors, disconnect the battery (that first), then have it inspected

Either it's leaking from the Fuel tank, a fuel hose or fuel injector o- ring.
