1998 mercury mystique

1998 mercury mystique.  Car starts and when I put it in drive it cuts off.  When it idles for
a few minutes it eventually cuts off.  The check engine light just came on.battery is good.

have the computer scanned for codes,since the check engine lite is on that will tell us something
