Some vehicles have the charcoal canister located under there. Not sure if your vehicle does or not. It's just for pollution control. If you don't have to pass a smog test, I wouldn't worry to much about it. I will see if I can find more info.

Did it look something like this? http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/repair_guide_content/en_us/imag es/0996b43f/80/e4/2a/15/medium/0996b43f80e42a15.gif Cut and paste the link into your google search box.

It's the Charcoal or Evaporative Canister. They fall off of our Crown Vic Police Interceptors once in a while. Odd since there's 2 rivets and 2 nuts that hold it in place. There's 2 valves or solenoids that will trip a "Check Engine" light so you want to put it back on. $200 for a new assembly.
