Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,

Grand Marquis 2004. Having this issue from last one month. After the
engine stopped is off for some time, the Air condition (Compressor) doesn't
turn on straight away. After driving for 5 minutes, the compressor starts
working and then works fine without any issue. From last few days the
duration of the delay increased and some times it takes 20 minutes for the
compressor to start. I google the issue and found no help. Finally yesterday
it got worst and while driving on the motor way the compressor was keep
stopping. I decided to take it to the mechanic. After checking every thing he
suspects that issue is with the fuse which is located next to the engine
under the bonnet and changed it. After that AC works fine and did not
stopped. Early morning today the same issue happen and compressor did
not turn on. I open the bonnet and press the fuse and compressor starts
working and then after driving 10 minutes it stopped again. Again i touch
the fuse and compressor starts again. So till here its clear that problem is
with the fuse but i am not sure why it is doing like this. Any help will be
highly appreciated.

Sounds like the metal tabs inside the fuse socket are worn. Had this happen to me once on the turn signals on an '02 Impala. Use a small screwdriver and press the tabs inside the fuse socket together on both sides where the fuse plugs into the fuse box. Make sure you have the correct amperage fuse in there as well. Sometimes overheating of the socket can cause this. HTH. -Jim
