55 Chevy 3200 6v to 12v in progress, 350 swapped.

Asked by Sep 07, 2016 at 02:04 PM about the 1971 Chevrolet C/K 10

Question type: Car Customization

OK so I swapped in 350 w/ automatic. I have
engine on stand alone setup, is carbureted, HEI
distributor. So 12v alternator & battery, I want to
run the 6v systems off the 12v charging, I re
installed the 6v regulator on firewall, I have
headlights & running lights, no brake lights when
applying brakes, no blinkers, I have been
researching DIY W/OUT BUYING NEW
HARNESSES. Other issue is now when I turn key it
will fire up, if I let idle it runs for roughly a
minute(60sec) and dies as if I shut off key, will
immediately refire if I turn key off then crank it, if I
try to just refire w/out cycling the key it WILL NOT
start, if I fire it up and hit throttle it immediately
dies, not a fuel issue, plenty of fuel, FYI- 90s 350 w/
vortech heads, roller everything, Holley 650 double
pumper, HEI DISTRIBUTOR- new coil(3rd one), ign
module, new ign tumbler(key), myself and my
apprentice did ALL labor, I have built around 100
7.3 power strokes w/ 500-1000 HP. I built 2 350s,
one was stock rebuild, other is the 1 in question, it
ran fine till it burnt up the 2nd coil then I replaced it
& lost spark again, so I pulled module and took it in
to O'Reillys to be tested, it fail 3 of 5 tests and
almost melted the test wire, so I returned to truck &
installed new parts, that's when it started dying and
I posted this. Thank you for your time, I hope I
explained things correctly and made it
understandable- Engine was in a 71 c10, we got
the truck and it was running I drove it- I rebuilt
engine.
