wont start so hook up battery cables and start the car but as soon as u remove the cables it dies???
how can i find out what it is? i think that the pos. and neg. cable touched while still hooked to the battery of lincoln..???
So the battery in the car is dead, you jump it to get it to start, engine fires and runs but when you remove the jumpers it dies. If this correct then you are describing a classic bad alternator, but as you threw is the cables touching you could have blown a main fuse. Replace or recharge the vehicles battery, check for blown fuses, if none are found then start engine and test alternator output, it should be around 14.2 to 14.7 volts at idle, if not replace the alternator.
