Towing a 7000 lb camper with our 2017 Toyota Tundra
Did your Tundra come with the towing package? Which model? Each model has different towing capacity. How much weight is in the Tundra when pulling? Is the camper really 7k lbs, or is that the base weight without water/waste, propane, and other stuff weighed too?
7,000 pounds is probably over the capacity of your truck. I suspect that if you weigh the trailer it is heavier than you think. The legal speed limit for trailers is 55 at least in my state, Maybe you need to get a real truck like a Ford F-250 but even my F-150 will pull my 35' triple axle travel trailer up a grade at 55. Maybe if you install a lower gear ratio third member it will help.
Locking out the OD might help but Toyota has a 4.30 rear axle ratio for their tow package which means their engines are low torque and require a lot of revs to tow a heavy load.
The Tundra is SAE rated to tow right around 10,000 lbs, and there's no "towing package" because they all come with the proper towing equipment standard.
