They are fairly reliable up till about 80000 miles, then things start happening, on mine the tranny went at 81234 miles, then when it hit 98000 the water pump and then the power steering pump pulley busted, of course there were smaller simple things like speakers, inside handles, etc. so if you buy new your good till that point.
Interesting, there's several models...Is the Grand Cherokee Limited the best of the lot?
tennisshoes- Would you say that buying them new is MORE reliable than Subaru and could it be that all cars past 80,000 miles statistically have more significant problems.
Chevy is more reliable than Jeep but Fords would be my choice in American cars.
I keep an eye on autos I would and would not buy and Jeep Cherokee's of any model are on my known list for do not buy along with others and one similar in size to the Jeep is Ford Exployer. They have too many issues, I like Ford the most just not for the Exployer.
I bought a 2015 JGC and it was recalled within the first week. That means they sold me the Jeep while the recall was probably in the works even when I asked them if there were any recalls. 2 more recalls since then. I think it is a great vehicle built and assembled by idiots.
